This year, the Swiss watch manufacturer IWC Schaffhausen embarks on an adventurous journey  – and I was one of the first and lucky ones to join them from the very beginning.

IWC is not only known for their fine watchmaking – but also for their art of entertaining and for throwing the most glitziest and buzzing events – loaded with lots of emotions and a VIP-caliber, that you can compare to the Oscars. This year – at SIHH, the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie, IWC just topped everything that they have ever done before: For the launch of their new Pilot’s watch collection, IWC created a booth, that looks like, let’s call it a “Back to the 30ies Gentleman’s/Pilot’s Club”. DISCOVER THE NEW PILOT’s WATCH

The design is strongly influenced by the beginnings of the exclusive pilot’s watches. IWC has reduced the dial of the recently presented Pilot’s Watch Automatic 36 to the essentials. The new three-hand watch is the smallest of all IWC watches with 36mm case diameter. It embodies elegance and understatement – with its size it is particularly suitable for smaller wrists – a perfect fit for a female wrist. You can choose from five models with three dial versions – the bracelets made of alligator leather and partially polished stainless steel offer more choices. The precision in the execution of each IWC wristwatch is spectacular – the Pilot’s Watch Automatic 36 is not only visually compelling – it is waterproof, protected against magnetic fields and thanks to the antireflective sapphire glass always easy to read.

Since 2013 IWC dedicates special editions the famous hero “Le Petit Prince” by the French writer Antoine de Saint-Exupéry who was not only a poet, but also an avid pilot and adventurer. The Big Pilot’s Watch Annual Calender Edition “Le Petit Prince” emphasizes on the little prince’s journey through the universe. The annual calendar is an innovation in the watch portfolio – three separate windows clearly indicate the year, the month and the day. The Little Prince can be seen on the underside of the Pilot’s watch behind sapphire glass. He invites you to fly like himself and to discover new and exotic places – and time actually does fly with this magnificent watch.

Who does not know that inconvenient adjustment of the time on your wristwatch as soon as you enter a different time zone. Everyone who travels a lot, including me, will appreciate the Pilot’s Watch Timezoner Chronograph. With a simple twist, the time zone can be easily adjusted on the outer edge of the luxury watch. Also the Daylight Saving Time, which does not exist everywhere in the world, has been taken into account – and still the watch convinces by its clarity. Twelve cities on the city ring represent the different time zones. The brown watch strap made of cow-hide was carefully aged, so that it seems as if the clock had already traveled similar distances as its wearer. IWC now brings back the traditional feel of Pilot’s watches, which used to have leather straps back in the days. The presentation of the new IWC collection showcases the perfection of the limited editions and answers the question of why they find so many collectors and enthusiastic fans – including me!

In diesem Jahr begibt sich die Schweizer Uhrenmanufaktur IWC Schaffhausen auf eine Reise – und ich gehöre zu den glücklichen Ersten, auf dieser Reise dabei zu sein. Die Reise von IWC geht ganz klar in die Zukunft – und die erste Destination war die SIHH: das Highlight eines jeden IWC-Jahres (siehe oben).

Trotz hochmoderner Technologie besinnt sich das Design der exklusiven Flieger-Uhren auf seine Anfänge. Die Designer haben das Ziffernblatt der gerade vorgestellten Pilot’s Watch Automatic 36 aufgeräumt und auf das Wesentliche reduziert. Die neue Dreizeigeruhr ist die kleinste aller IWC Uhren mit 36mm Gehäusedurchmesser. Sie verkörpert Eleganz und Understatement – besonders geeignet ist sie für schmale Handgelenke – besonders geeignet für Frauen. Zur Auswahl stehen fünf Modelle mit drei Ziffernblattversionen – die Armbänder aus Alligatorenleder und teilpoliertem Edelstahl bieten weitere Auswahlmöglichkeiten. Die Präzision in der Ausführung macht jede der Uhren zum absoluten Schmuckstück – die Pilot’s Watch Automatic 36 ist nicht nur optisch überzeugend – sie ist wasserdicht, magnetfeldgeschützt und dank des entspiegelten Saphirglases jederzeit gut ablesbar.

Der Jahreskalender ist eine Neuheit bei der Uhrenmanufaktur – drei separate Fenster zeigen Jahr, Monat und Tag an. Der kleine Prinz ist auf der Unterseite der Fliegeruhr unter dem Saphirglasboden zu sehen. Er lädt zum Fliegen ein, um wie er selbst Neues zu entdecken und exotische Orte zu bereisen – mit dieser imposanten Uhr vergeht die Zeit dabei wie im Fluge.

Wer kennt es nicht, das lästige Umstellen der Uhrzeiger, sobald man sich in einer anderen Zeitzone befindet. Wer so wie ich viel unterwegs ist, wird den Pilot’s Watch Timezoner Chronograph zu schätzen wissen. Mit einem einfachen Dreh lässt sich die Zeitzone spielend leicht am Außenrand der Luxusuhr verstellen. Auch auf die Sommerzeit, die nicht überall auf der Welt existiert, geht die Uhr ein und überzeugt durch ihre Übersichtlichkeit. Zwölf Städte stehen stellvertretend für die Zeitzonen auf dem Städtering der Uhr. Der braune Riemen aus Rindsleder wurde durch seine Behandlung schonend gealtert, sodass es wirkt, als habe sei die Uhr bereits ähnlich weitgereist wie sein Träger. Somit besinnt sich IWC nun verstärkt auf traditionelle Fliegeruhren zurück, die allesamt über einen robustes Lederarmband verfügten. Die Präsentation der neuen IWC Watches Kollektion überzeugt durch die Perfektion der limitierten Uhren und beantwortet die Frage, warum sie so viele Sammler und begeisterte Träger finden.
