If a restaurant’s trendiness can be measured by how difficult it is to book a table for 4 at 8pm on a weekend, Sexy Fish is without doubt the hippest spot in London right now. The newly opened establishment, another shiny gem joining the proud collection of the Caprice Holdings restaurant group, has been impossible to get a reservation at, lunch or dinner, 7 days a week.

It is almost expected that Sexy Fish would be this popular. After all, we have all witnessed or read about the glitzy opening night where Rita Ora sang to a celebrity-filled crowd including Kate Moss, Goldie Hawn, and singer Ciara. And what’s the must-have accessory of this season, you ask me? The silver key chain that has been sent by the restaurant to VVIPs of the elite world granting them an exclusive priority access to the booking line (there is no membership application, this is strictly by invitation only).

I had made my first visit on a gloomy Saturday for lunch followed by a late dinner during the week. Sexy Fish did not fail to give me a full dose of sexiness each time with its beautiful interior and equally eye-pleasing patrons. It has been named by restaurant critics as the most lavish restaurant in London in years, and it is not hard to see why – £15 million has gone into the art deco interior to ensure that it would be the most glitzy place on planet earth. Quite fittingly, Damien Hirst’s mermaids adorn the bar, and he is not the only artist who has designed specifically for this restaurant. Frank Gehry and Michael Roberts have also contributed to the look of mid-century glamour. The plushness of the raspberry leather seats and the heavy marble flooring perfectly contrasts the elaborately designed and lit ceiling, creating the most flawless ambiance.

The restaurant serves Pan Asian food that is heavily Japanese-influenced, with executive chef Ben Orpwood heading the kitchen. The menu is clean, delicate, elegant yet mouth watering. Were the fishes served at this restaurant sexier than those served elsewhere? Most definitely so. Tartar of yellowtail, rock lobster tempura, and miso glazed Chilean sea bass are all among the highest rated. Other favourites also include octopus carpaccio, beef & foie gras gyoza, crispy duck salad, and the fun-to-eat skewers. And being a girl, I couldn’t forget the desserts and neither should you. The white & dark chocolate tofu and Rice Crispy green tea ice cream will make you swoon.

Sexy Fish clearly knows that once their guests get to the restaurant, they don’t wanna leave. And with a resident DJ playing sexy music, the fun goes on well into the early hours in the morning for the sexy diners.

Angela’s tips: Organise your dinner plan well in advance to avoid disappointment.
