His latest project, “Life Energy”, is a series of unique ‘Living Paintings’ developed during his residency, which vividly embody his artistic vision and his commitment to environmental care.

Created in the resort’s Fari Art Atelier, these artworks are profound statements about the integration of art with ecological mindfulness, crafted from natural materials sourced from the island itself. This initiative is part of “Pathways,” a transformative series of events at Patina Maldives that encourages guests to explore creativity and personal growth in harmony with nature.

“Life Energy” marks a significant chapter in the “Pathways” series, following initiatives such as “Experience as Healing” and “Cosmopolitan Ocean” that fused wellness with cultural exchange. Sassan Behnam-Bakhtiar’s approach is deeply aligned with this ethos, focusing on using sustainably sourced materials like minerals, wood, roots, flowers, rocks, and soil. His canvases and frames are also environmentally friendly, made from sustainably harvested wood and naturally treated linen.

The series of 20cm x 20cm ‘Living Paintings’ not only showcases Behnam-Bakhtiar’s artistic prowess but also his advocacy for a more sustainable approach to art-making. He uses materials like ground shells and corals collected from around the island, turning them into vibrant paints that tell a story of respect and reverence for the (local) natural world.

This July, “Life Energy” will come full circle back to Patina Maldives for an exclusive exhibition and art sale. The event is set to not only display these powerful pieces but also support local marine conservation efforts. Fifty percent of the proceeds from the art sales are donated to fund Ocean Rebirth, Patina Maldives’ upcoming coral nursery program,aimed at protecting reefs and expanding coral restoration, embodying the resort’s commitment to ecological responsibility.

In anticipation of the event, Sassan shared his vision: “This new series focuses on enhancing the connection with the Self, mind, body, and soul, bringing our energies, consciousness, and life perspectives together as one. It’s about evolving as humans and making a real impact.” He stresses the importance of creating art that not only beautifies but also preserves the environment.
