Did you know that trees have incredible healing powers and that taking a walk in the forest can do wonders for your health? Now, imagine pairing that with meditation! The Japanese have been aware of these benefits for years, but it’s only recently that “Forest Bathing” has gained popularity here. And where better to experience this meditative walk than in the serene woods surrounding my favorite hotel, The Dolder Grand?
Even though I live by the lake in Zurich city, I often find myself escaping to this little sanctuary just outside the city to relax and recharge. It’s the perfect getaway from the hustle of daily life.
The Dolder Grand’s location, right next to the famous and beautiful forest on Zürichberg, called “Dolder Wald”, makes it easy to step into nature and disconnect for more than a while. And for that purpose, The Dolder Grand Spa offers “Forest Bathing” as a spa package from 1 May-30 December 2024, which includes the following:
.. which is one of my favourite specials of the hotel, and I keep booking it over and over again!
The highlight for me is the 60-minute private outdoor session of “Shinrin Yoku,” or forest bathing: It’s a Japanese practice of mindful walking and breathing in nature by repeating a mantra, and it really helps clear my mind and reduce stress. It’s amazing how much a simple walk in the woods, when done mindfully, can reset your mind and body.
The package also includes a 90-minute Organic Urban Skin Facial by Amala, which leaves your skin feeling revitalised and glowing. Following that, I enjoy a 60-minute Bamboo Shiatsu treatment. Shiatsu, is the best treatment, I find, you can do to release tension and blockages from anywhere in your body. It lets your energy flow again, as it should and is extremely relaxing. A heavenly and long sleep is guaranteed after such a treatment.
Overall, if you’re looking for a relaxing, revitalising and rejuvenating, nature-filled getaway, I highly recommend this Forest Bathing special at The Dolder Grand. It’s a great way to recharge in a setting that uniquely combines contemporary design, best service, ultimate comfort, culinary delights and pure Swiss nature. 🙂
