This year, I’ve spent my Valentine’s Day, in a different way, than the years before. IWC Schaffhausen took me on a sporty adventure to Monaco.

HeliAir Monaco picked me up at Nice Airport and I landed in sunny Monte Carlo, checked in to a beautiful room with sea view at the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel and was ready to meet the friends and family of IWC Schaffhausen…

This year, February 14th, was a special day in Monaco and there was so much excitement in the air. The Laureus World Sports Awards 2017 were about to start in the evening. The world’s best sports men and women were nominated to receive „The Oscars“ of sports and they all came to Monaco to celebrate the award night. We were very excited too and crossed our fingers for our favorite athletes.

A first event of the journey, was the launch of the IWC Da Vinci Chronograph Edition “Laureus Sport for Good Foundation”. Limited to 1,500 watches, this timepiece with its blue dial and back engraving is the 11th special edition to be launched by IWC as part of its commitment to the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. Some of the proceeds from sales are used to help to support the foundation’s sports projects for children and adolescents.

The Dream of a young boy: One of the hallmarks of all Laureus special editions is an engraving on the case back. Traditionally, IWC Schaffhausen organizes an annual children’s drawing competition within all the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation projects worldwide. The motto this year was “Time Well Spent”, and the jury singled out a drawing by 12-year-old Hou Ye from Shanghai. Despite a mental handicap and limited motor abilities, Hou Ye is a passionate participant in the Special Olympics East Asia. His winning picture shows himself on skis, laughing happily as he sets his own personal best time.

The world’s best racing cyclist and double Olympic Gold Medalist Fabian Cancellara aka. “Spartacus” received his limited timepiece and was honored for becoming a new member of the Laureus Sports For Good Foundation. I would say, this is a perfect fit, as Fabian truly is a good person with lots of ambition and energy to push limits, bring the right people together and keen on supporting great projects for the good cause.

IWC Schaffhausen as a global supporter and sponsor of the Laureus Sports For Good Foundation, organized a 30km bike ride from Monaco to Italy, together with some friends of the brand such as Olympic Gold Medalist in Cycling Fabian Cancellara, Iron Man World Champion & Olympic Gold Medalist Jan Frodeno, F1 World Champion Nico Rosberg and many other sport personalities. Alongside the incoming IWC CEO Chris Grainger-Herr, Laureus Members and international influencers such as Lisa Bahnholzer and Jessica Kawawaty, I also joined the bike ride along the beautiful French Riviera.

The campaign #SneakersForGood supports the Laureus For Good Foundation, so all guests arrived in “Laureus style”: wearing sneakers to their smoking or dress.

Hugh Grant was a pretty cool host of the night – with quite a sarcastic humor (we like). Her Highness Princess Charlene of Monaco held a stunning speech and reminded us how sport can help saving children’s lives and improve ours. Ronan Keating (Happy 40th Birthday to you!) performed romantic Valentine’s songs on stage, and our favorites Nico Rosberg (Category: Breakthrough of The Year) and Bebe Vio (Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability) of course won the Laureus World Sports Award 2017! …so we celebrated them (and with them) till the morning hours.

Thank you IWC & Laureus! This was so much FUN!

Today, I also want to wish HAPPY BIRTHDAY, to the incredible Bebe Vio, who won the Laureus World Sports Award, in the category Sportsperson with a Disability! …for her courage, ambition, her drive, for being such an empowering, strong and positive woman! This world needs more women like you! Congratulations!
