#TOGETHERBAND SDG 3: 10 Well-Being Tips for #WorldHealthDay

I am very happy to be part of #TOGETHERBAND campaign as an official ambassador for the UN Sustainable Development Goal #3: GOOD HEALTH AND WELLBEING. I truly believe that being well – holistically – is the most important factor to every human being’s life. I want to raise awareness for the small healthy steps we can all integrate into our everyday lives by consciously taking care of our body, mind and soul, to live each situation and each circumstance as the best version of ourselves – and help others to do the same. Here are 10 very easy to adapt well-being tips, that I’ve integrated into my every day life within the past years, which really work and I’d love to share them with you and inspire you to become healthier and well.

1. Morning Routine

We are what we continuously do. Good habits and routines make us feel comfortable and keep us balanced. This is why I always wake up at least 15-60 minutes earlier than I should, to have important me-time, to set intentions for the day and write them down. I include a quick yoga or work out session, and take a 1minute cold shower to boost my metabolism for the day ahead. When your morning is positive, you’ll most likely feel more balanced, grounded and „sefe“, no matter what situation you’ll face during the day.

2. Breathing

Human beings can survive days without food and water, but only seconds without breathing. Yet we underestimate, how important breathing is and how beneficial, balancing breathing techniques, such as meditation can actually be for our well-being. Therefore I take a few minutes per day to calm myself down from my busy life and just breathe deeply and consciously, in order to balance body, mind and soul.

3. Hydration

Our bodies consist of 60 % water. Water is not only essential for us to live, function and be well, but it also helps us cleanse, detox, focus and perform. 10 glasses of water per day (2 l) are key for a well life. During travels, jet-lags, stressful or low energy days, I even drink 3 l water per day.

4. Movement

Being alive means moving. Life never stands still. Neither should we. I try to work-out (and most importantly stretch/yoga) between 10-60 minutes in the mornings (depending on how much time I have) and track my daily footsteps to reach at least 8000-12000 footsteps a day (preferably in nature). This gives me energy throughout the day and keeps my body and mind fit.

5. Healthy Nutrition & Guilty Pleasures: The 80:20 Rule

(Key: Have the healthy ones always first)

Every person has a different taste. Nevertheless it is scientifically proven, that a plant based diet has the best health benefits for our bodies. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends to eat a minimum of 5 portions of fruits and vegetables (1:5) per day. I do follow the plant-based diet 80-90% of the time, yet I believe that some guilty pleasures like (for me: a good glass of red wine or chocolate for my sweet tooth) are not that bad. The joy of enjoying can be so beneficial for our mood. Yet I make sure you eat the healthy first, so you’ve got a good base. Same goes for coffee in the morning. Have your water, fruits or juice first. Then, enjoy a coffee. Additionally I take personalized vitamin supplements.

6. Organised vs. Flexible: The 60:40 Rule

Being an entrepreneur, constantly on the go, I’ve learned to become more organized – in order to be flexible. Organization (such as the Marie Kondo method or planning a month, week, day ahead) gives us even more flexibility. I believe that one should not be overly organized though and leave some time for spontaneous moments, decisions and dreams. Because in the end of the day, these spontaneous, unplanned moments mostly turn out to be the best memories in our lives.

7. Positive Environment

Can flowers grow on toxic soil? No! And now, ask yourself: Can you?! Positive surroundings, starting with clean air and nutrition, a positive work space, good people and healthy and strong relationships based on true and authentic values are key for us to grow – and feel well. I do ask myself these questions from time to time. And if I feel like something is off or toxic, I change it – or (make a plan to) leave it, in order to thrive and live the happiest life possible.

8. Solution-Oriented Thinking

You become what you think. And believing in the power of thought, I know that if we think in solutions, rather than in problems, we will a) always find one and b) always be on the right path. Especially at work, I don’t think about a problem any longer, after I have analyzed it. I either let it go or find solutions for it. Very often I use the reverse technique, by finding the solution using the opposite to what created the problem.

9. Kindness & Giving

Kindness is the most important part in our relationships. To yourself, to others, to your environment, our planet. Personally speaking, it makes me so happy to make others happy. I truly see it as a privilege being able to help and inspire others. Be kind. Give and share. It will make you happier on all levels.

10. Gratitude

It’s an easy practice and so effective. Being grateful for the small things in life is one of the best things we can do for our mood. It trains our brain to always look for the positive and makes our days – and each situation look brighter. I think about 10-20 things every day, wich I am grateful for – and the result is simple: happiness.
